Cubist Lilies

Cubist lilies in Picasso-Braque style

About this puzzle

Cubism as a painting style was developed in the early 1900s by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Picasso and Braque wanted to show the whole structure of objects in their paintings without using techniques such as perspective or graded shading to make them look realistic. They wanted to show things as they are - not just what they look like. Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon is the first painting to be called Cubist. The name was popularized about a year later when an art critic, looking at one of Braque's paintings, said it looked like it was made of cubes.
