Vintage travel posters first appeared in the late 1800s and early 1900s, as railways expanded and leisure travel became more common. Railway companies led the way by hiring artists to create eye-catching posters that promoted new destinations reachable by train. Ski resorts soon became a popular theme, especially in Alpine regions such as Switzerland, France, and Austria, where winter tourism was on the rise. Artists often depicted skiers against impressive mountain scenery, using simple shapes, clear lines, and bold colors to draw attention.
