About this puzzle
Katherine Dunlap's images pull you in slowly, catching your eye with vivid colors, but they're more than pretty. Often framed or filled with all kinds of tropical vegetation, their bright, flat surfaces recall tourist postcards of the mid-20th century, when the idea of "vacation" seemed to become real to a wide variety of Americans. Inspired by old photographs and slides of her parents and grandparents, her images feel both general and specific, real and not real, calling to mind vintage paint by numbers and oilcloth prints in their palettes.
